Volkswagen has launched an all-wheel drive version of its latest Crafter large van range.
VW says the Crafter 4MOTION, is now on sale priced from $57,590 plus on-roads, adding a $4500 premium to the normal front-drive Crafter.
The 4MOTION Volkswagen Crafter is powered by the 2.0-litre four-cylinder ‘TDI410 BlueMotion’ turbo-diesel, with a claimed 130kW at 3600rpm and 410Nm of torque at 2000rpm with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard.
The Crafter 4MOTION version comes with the same 3550 kg GVM as the front-drive Crafter but can be upgraded to 4000 kg if required.
The 4MOTION version will be available in both van and cab/chassis versions, with the van in medium and long wheelbases and the cab/chassis only in long wheelbase with either single or dual-cab configuration.
VW once shared its Crafter platform with Daimler’s Sprinter but now it is a stand alone Volkswagen platform and is manufactured at its Polish production facility.
Crafter boasts front and side airbags, collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera, driver fatigue detection and crosswind mitigation as standard which VW says is a class leading safety package.
Features such as parking assist, rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, sensor-based side assist and adaptive cruise control can also be optioned along with a mechanical differential lock and hill descent control, while for fleet use Volkswagen says the 4MOTION can be configured for integration with fleet telematics systems.
