
The ATA has announced on its website that the line up of guest speakers at its upcoming Trucking Australia 2025 conference in Adelaide in late April is growing with a number of sessions for the announced ahead of the event targeting major issues for the industry.
One of the key sessions which has been confirmed by the ATA revolves around the industry body’s quest to address the chronic shortage of drivers and to attract new recruits to the industry.
THE ATA has entitled the session “Building our future trucking workforce’, which will be presented by the national training manager for major transport company Simon National Carriers, Bill Manton, along with the ATA’s own marketing and corporate partnerships director, Bianca D’Rosario.
The ATA has already come out strongly in the past week on the subject of creating a more sustainable workforce for the industry with a call to both the Albanese Government and the Dutton Opposition, that whoever takes power in May needs to do something about the employment challenges of this critical industry.
The ATA says that the session will launch its workforce initiative to the conference, and that the initiative was created to help potential entrants to better understand a trucking career.
The ATA has also announced that a session to be presented by Bristol Legal senior associate, Georgia Paterson, will also share the findings from its Multicultural Driver Roundtable along with tools for recruiting more widely. Patterson is a specialist in regulatory and commercial law.
The Association has said that people will be able to obtain facts on owner-driver contract terminations, be informed on the ability for owner-drivers and gig workers to apply for protections from unfair contract termination to the Fair Work Commission, including, the rules about who can apply for relief and when they need to apply, what happens in cases of serious misconduct, how to use the Road Transport Industry Termination Code and how a road transport contract termination differs from an employment termination.
In another session it has announced ahead o the conference, the ATA has said that ‘Navigating your CoR obligations’, will explain Chain of Responsibility for those seeking further information, clarification and certainty with the rules.
The Association also said that participants will be able to listen to the expert panel it has assembled for what ti its calling an “in-depth discussion on the most common challenges that businesses face when navigating CoR.”
It says that participants will be able to as questions and gain valuable insights to help ensure they’re on the right road when it comes ot CoR while exploring emerging topics including fostering a just culture, incident reporting, and continuous improvement.
The ATA’s Trucking Australia 2025 is scheduled to run from the 28th to the 30th of April at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
