Volvo Group Australia is claiming some kudos  for its performance at the recent ‘Excellence in Smart Transport Award’ with the Brisbane based – Swedish controlled company taking the award at this year’s inaugural Smart Energy Council’s Smart Energy Excellence Awards Gala Dinner in Sydney

Volvo Group Australia took the award which is said to recognise “excellence in innovation, value  and impact in transport with an emphasis on renewable energy”.

The Smart Energy Council labels itself as an “organisation  that advocates on behalf of the renewable energy industry acting as a representative body as well as providing training and advice on renewables”.

Volvo rightly lays claim to having been amongst the first to launch medium and heavy duty BEVs in Australia and claims to be current market leader in the electric segments, of the industry, although there is some speculation about accurate electric truck sales tracking at this early stage of the industry.

Volvo says its first BEV hit Australian roads in 2021 claiming that since then its electric trucks have covered more than  a million kilometres in cities around the country.

Volvo claims that  it has around 73 heavy duty (BEV’s currently on Australian roads, with the company claiming  that transport operators are starting to reap the benefits of electrifying transport operations in terms of total cost of ownership as well as future proofing their operations.

President and CEO of Volvo Group Australia, Martin Merrick said that its super  exciting to see its electromobility journey recognised by its peers outside the industry.

“We’re determined to provide quality transport solutions for our customers and having an industry leading electric truck range is just one part of the solving the decarbonisation puzzle,” Merrick said.

“I’m very grateful to the Smart Energy Council for this recognition and look forward to seeing Australia’s electric truck fleet continue to grow and thrive in our cities,” the Volvo boss said.
