Scania has another new face in its leadership team with Martin Toomey taking up the recently revived role of sales director for all three business divisions, truck, bus and engine.
Under the reign of Roger McCarthy, the managing director also operated as the sales director. The role has been reinstated following the changing of the guard to new MD Mikael Jansson and Toomey was appointed.
“I am excited to be joining Scania at this stage in the company’s history,” Toomey said.
“Over the past few years, Scania’s rise under Roger McCarthy’s leadership has been resolute and admirable.
“Scania is evolving its hardware and software products and services into a new paradigm, whereby we will increasingly play the role of an insightful business partner to our customers, offering them solutions tailored to their exact needs,” he added.
“We will be looking to bring many more customers to the Scania family, as well as to expand the scope of our offer to our existing customers, in order to facilitate their journey to greater profitability.
“Given the high degree of localisation we are able to add to specialist applications for customers, Scania Australia could become the global benchmark within the company for specialised and high productivity vehicle solutions.
“The lessons we learn in this market, given our arduous operating and far-reaching compliance environment, can benefit other markets in the Scania world,” he said.
Toomey brings nearly 20 years of commercial vehicles experience and boasts an impressive CV.
Most recently he was the general manager of Eaton Corporation in Australia. Prior to this his roles included managing director at Knorr-Bremse (China CVS), general manager at Knorr-Bremse Australia, general manager commercial vehicles at FMP Group and operations manager at Bridgestone.
