Volvo Truck has revealed that two Queensland based transport companies, JR Stephens and Co, and Rise of The Phoenix have both taken delivery of their first electric trucks.
Volvo Group Australia (VGA) claims the delivery of the new electric trucks is an example of it making inroads towards establishing a fossil free supply chain, albeit in a slow and steady manner, with three trucks hardly tilting the needle on the electric truck meter, while both of them will be used in the Volvo ‘ecosphere’
Volvo says the trucks, a Volvo FM Electric and two Volvo FH Electrics, will be used to transport components from local suppliers and warehousing to its Wacol factory in he western suburbs of Brisbane.
“Like most Australian business we’re heavily dependent on road transport for our everyday operations, and these trucks are the first heavy duty BEVs to join the fleet that services our factory and warehousing, which demonstrates our commitment to decarbonising our own operations, where possible,” said ,” said vice president of Volvo Trucks Australia, Tom Chapman.
“The first BEV to become a part of the VGA supply chain was a medium-duty Volvo FE Electric that was delivered to GEODIS in Sydney to supply our Minto parts warehouse,” said Chapman.
“We are committed to take opportunities towards decarbonising our operations,” he added.
Managing directo of JR Stephens , Nathan Stephens said the new Volvo FM Electric represents a huge step for the company.
“I’m proud that our company will be playing a part in VGA’s journey towards a fossil-free future, and it’s a testament to the power of collaboration and the shared commitment to innovation that will drive us all toward a more sustainable tomorrow,” said Stephens.
Managing director of Rise of The Phoenix, FronigaRiani, echoed the sentiment by saying that partnering with Volvo Group Australia on its decarbonisation journey has been a steep learning curve.
“It’s been a steep, yet rewarding learning curve, helping us set a new standard for collaboration in the move toward sustainable transport.,” Riani said.
