NIKOLA ROLLING – IF EVER SO SLOWLY

Troubled US zero emission truck start up, Nikola  has reported  it wholesaled  a grand total of 72 hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks in  the second quarter,a figure which exceeded its modest guidance figures of between 50 and 60 trucks.

According to a news release it issued this week, the fledgling sales represented the best quarter so far, since the company began assembling its trucks at its Arizona plant last year.

“We have maintained our 2024 momentum with solid wholesale numbers, new customers such as Walmart Canada, and repeat customers like 4GEN and IMC, purchasing vehicles through our dealer network,” Nikola CEO Steve Girsky said.

Nikola delivered its first hydrogen 35 fuel cell trucks in the fourth quarter last year and claims it wholesaled 40 more in the quarter to the end of June this year, again  quarter, beating its modest guidance of  between 30 and 35  hydrogen fuel cell trucks in the period.

The company said results complement a goal to ramp up deliveries in 2024 and says that they represent the beginning of much larger scaling of the company projects. Its guidance from May pegged wholesale deliveries for the year at a more robust 300 to 350 trucks.

Girsky told investors on an  earnings call in May that he expected volume to scale significantly in 2025 and  for Nikola to deliver even more volume in 2026.

“We’re seeing green shoots with repeat and new fleets — some in new markets such as New York,” Girsky said.

“While our initial focus has been California and Canada, we can expand our reach to meet the demands of end fleet users virtually anywhere in the U.S,” he added.
