Navistar has announced the purchase of Studebaker’s former test track, a 668-acre, purpose-built site in New Carlisle, Indiana, previously known as the Bosch Proving Grounds.
Originally built in 1923 as a race track, Navistar aims to use the facility to rigorously test their full product line, which includes International Trucks, IC Bus, as well as various military vehicles.
Acquisition of the site has been lauded as a “strategic addition” for Navistar by Bill Kozek, president of Navistar Truck and Parts, and is set to “play an important role” for customers as well as product development. Navistar hopes to give customers an opportunity to experience their vehicles first-hand at the facility.
