A new flagship range for Navistar International will be put into production in the USA from November.
The LT Series was launched last week and promises up to seven per cent better fuel economy and new technology, according to Navistar truck and parts president Bill Kozek.
“This new vehicle reflects our strong belief that integrating the best technology will provide customers with a significant operating advantage,” Kozek said.
“The new International LT Series reflects our vision for the future of the trucking industry, with a host of advancements that support improved driver safety and productivity.”
Two engine options are available in the LT Series, the 2017 Navistar N13 or Cummins X15 with rating from 475 to 565 horsepower, as well as a four cab configurations.
Extensive ergonomics research went into the LT Series to ensure it meets the company’s DriverFirst design focus and provide more leg, hip and elbow room than previous models.
“Driver input also led to a smart, well-designed mix of high-tech and traditional features that emphasise driver ease of use,” a spokesperson said.
“The redesigned interior features a new premium gauge cluster with a digital driver display that places everything within comfortable reach, while offering drivers real-time monitoring of fuel economy and other important alerts in clear sight.
“The new display also offers up to 15 customisable digital gauges. In addition, the air horn was relocated back to its traditional, intuitive position over the driver door in response to overwhelming driver feedback.”
International also made aerodynamic changes to reduce wind noise and make gains in fuel efficiency. Line of sight is also improved with reconfigured side windows.
The LT Series comes with International’s adaptive cruise control which also uses GPS map and route data to anticipate the best approach to terrain.
