Daimler Trucks Australia has announced that an all-electric version of its  Mercedes-Benz Econic waste collection truck, will be the headline display at the Australasian Waste and Recycling Expo in Sydney later this week (24 and 25 July).

The company said that Mercedes-Benz Trucks will present its ‘ground-breaking’ zero driving emission and operates in near silent operating eEconic, at. the two day waste and recycling industry show.

Mercedes-Beanz said that the electric eEconic is now available for Australian customers, and that it adds to the positives of the diesel Econic, which was originally developed as a specialist waste-collection vehicle.

The company said that it was built from the ground-up to work in densely populated areas and says it is known for its ‘excellent visibility, practicality and active safety features’.

It added that the unique eEconic has been welcomed by European customers thanks to its advanced design, strong performance and efficiency.

Mercedes says the eEconic uses much the same electric architecture as its eActros trucks, another part  of its electric  truck range on sale in Australia.

Daimler Truck lays claim to being an electric truck leader in Australia and was the first manufacturer to launch an all-electric truck when Fuso introduced its pioneering eCanter locally in 2021.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks Australia Pacific vice president, Andrew Assimo, said the eEconic will be a highlight of the AWRE event.

“We’re excited to display the remarkable eEconic at this important showcase,” Assimo said.

“The waste and recycling industry is the perfect environment for the eEconic and will make it easy for businesses who are determined to reduce transport carbon emissions in a practical way,”  he said.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks says that  while it sees itself as leading the way with battery electric technology, it also says it is  also proud to help traditional internal combustion engine customers drive down emissions adding it introduced the first full range of Euro 6 heavy trucks  when it launched the new Actros in 2016,  with what it describes as ‘remarkable fuel efficiency’ and which it  is says is renowned across the industry.
