Truck operators are set to be spoiled for choice when it comes to renting prime movers and big trucks with PACCAR announcing at the recent Brisbane Truck Show that it will join the likes of Penske in offering trucks on a hire basis and not just as a purchasing proposition.
PACCAR announced it will offer full-service truck rental and leasing in Australia with its PacLease Rental and Leasing operation based at the joint Kenworth/DAF dealership in Melbourne’s western suburb of Laverton, where it will begin renting and leasing full line-up of Kenworth and DAF trucks.
Neil Vonnahme, President of PacLease, says the move is a logical extension to the company’s operation in Australia and is an exciting addition to its portfolio as a global truck company. PacLease has been operating for 35 years in the US and for 20 years in Mexico, while in Europe DAF trucks have been offered for rental in Germany since 2007.
The Australian operation will be headed up by Olen Hunter (pictured), who has been PacLease director of sales in North American since 2006.
“The market potential in Australia is exciting and we’ve begun to build our rental fleet suited with both DAF and Kenworth trucks.”
Initially the rigid range will be based on the new DAF LF chassis and will be equipped with 14 pallet curtain-sided bodies and lift-gates, while the prime mover rental fleet will feature the DAF FTT CF 85 set for single trailer work using the MX-13 460-horsepower engine mated to a 12-speed automated gearbox and the DAF FTT XF105 specced with 510-horsepower MX13 with a 16-speed automated gearbox and ready for local and intrastate B-Double trailer work.”
