GO ANYWHERE GOES TO AUSTRALIAN FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES SHOW AT DARLING HARBOUR

Daimler is set to showcase  its impressive array of off road and difficult terrain trucks at the AFAC fire and emergency services show from 3 to 6 September at Sydney’s Darling Harbour.

Daimler says it will headline its stand at the Fire show  with its  go anywhere Mercedes-Benz Unimog with the utilitarian German all wheel drive machine sharing the limelight with its Japanese cousin, the  Fuso Canter 4×4, which is also a serious off-road vehicle, but not quite as serious as its German relative.

Mercedes-Benz rightfully  claims the  Unimog  as iconic, a factor backed up by its remarkable off-road capabilities, which has seen it added to a number of high profile all-terrain fleets including with the NSW State Emergency Service and Victoria’s Forest Fire Management administration.

The Unimog U5023 model on display will be  a crew cab with an optional six-seater crew cab.

Underneath its spacious cab sits a low-emission Euro 6 turbo diesel engine which  provides the Unimog  with ample of power and ,which is mated to a gearbox with 16 forward gears and 12 reverse cogs, which gives the truck extraordinary drivability in tough terrain.

The Unimog’s famed portal axles  enables massive ground clearance  ensuring the truck can ford water up to 1.2 metres deep.  Daimler says the Unimog also features central tyre inflation, which means tyre pressures can be easily adjusted for optimum traction in slippery conditions.

The  other truck on display, the Fuso Canter 4×4 is a rugged  off-road capable light truck and it is fitted with a low-range gearbox, locking front hubs and a rear Limited Slip Differential (LSD).

Daimler says customers also have the option of a standard cab or crew cab that seats seven and that the Canter 4×4 has a GVM of 6.5 tonne  and a GCM of 10.5 tonne,  but is also available with a 4.5 tonne GVM so it can be driven on a car licence.

Daimler Truck sales, marketing and operations vice president, Andrew Assimo, said Mercedes-Benz and Fuso have long been trusted by Australian fire and emergency services for their off-road capability and durability.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Unimog and 4×4 Canter to the AFAC show to demonstrate class-leading off-road capability in big and small sizes,” Assimo said.

“These two trucks have unmatched capabilities that allow fire and emergency service members carry out their critical work safely and effectively,” he added.

AFAC 24 is being staged at Sydney’s  International Convention and Exhibition Centre at Darling Harbour.
