The headline on the Daimler press release could easily have given Geelong footy fans false hope, with the banner tag proclaiming ‘Another win for Geelong’, on the same day the Cats were unceremoniously eliminated from the AFL finals. However the Daimler release was about another win for G-Town in the form of a new Daimler Truck Dealership.
Fortunately the Daimler PR person is the one suffering the most as a long time Cats fan, but the new truck dealership will, it seems, benefit Victoria’s second city more than their favourite football club, at least in the short to medium term.
The news that the new regional Daimler Truck dealership has opened its doors in Geelong in a new $10 million facility, is a point worth crowing about for Daimler Trucks, with the region enjoying a boom in recent times.
Daimler Trucks claim that the new Geelong dealership sets a new benchmark for truck dealerships in the region and will sell and support its Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner and Fuso brands.
The new dealership is being operated by Velocity Truck Centres, which purchased all of Daimler’s factory owned dealerships in Australia around three years ago and also holds many Daimler Truck dealership franchises in its native North America .
Velocity operates the next nearest Daimler Trucks dealership just 50 km up the M1 Motorway from Geelong in the Melbourne suburb of Truganina, at Daimler Trucks Laverton. The new dealership is a big step up from the more modest Daimler Truck dealership representation in the past in the City on Corio Bay.
The new Geelong facility on Technology Close, in the suburb of Corio, has a 6637 square metre hardstand area, a 2829 square metre main building with 15 bays and a 9.8 metre height clearance.
Daimler Truck Australia Pacific president and CEO, Daniel Whitehead, said the opening of the new dealership is great news for Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner and Fuso customers in the region.
“Daimler Truck customers in Geelong and surrounds will now be supported with a first-class dealership experience through Daimler Trucks Geelong and that represents a fantastic step forward,” he said.
“This is a brilliant facility with a motivated team, providing the kind of support and experience that our customers deserve,” Whitehead added.
Richard Higgins,, the president of Velocity Truck Centres, said the new facility will be well received.
“We are excited to have a new modern facility for our customers and employees that is convenient to major transport roads,” Higgins said.
“The new site is a significant upgrade on our previous location which reflects the considerable investment we continue to make across our Australian business,” Higgins concluded.
Daimler Trucks said the new dealership is part of a continued drive to support its truck customers across Australia.
Daimler Truck claims it delivers a range of measures aimed at driving down the cost of running trucks and buses, including lower fuel consumption, longer service intervals and easier finance options, including guaranteed buy-back plans.
Thanks he company claims that many of its models currently come with complimentary service plans with varying time and kilometre limits that give customers peace of mind when it comes to operating costs.
