The Ford Ranger has again beaten the Toyota HiLux for the top spot in the Australian Light Commercial Vehicle sales race.
April 2024 VFACTS data shows the Ford offering held off the longtime market-leading Toyota product with total sales of 5,569 in the month.
HiLux secured a sales total of 4,693 units.
Despite the overall sales lead, driven by demand for the 4×4 variants, the Toyota remained the favourite among 4×2 ute and pick-up buyers.
The Toyota beat out the Ford 664 to 480 sales in this space. Isuzu Ute captured the silver-medal position on the podium in the month with 592 sales.
Overall, Toyota led the LCV sales race in April with 6,278 total deliveries. That number chews up around 30% of the total market and incorporates LandCruiser ute and HiAce sales.
HiAce again remains the best-selling van in the nation.
There were also 28 sales for the Toyota Tundra pick-up in that Toyota total.
Interestingly, in the large North American pick-up race the Toyota trails the main players by a fair amount.
The RAM 1500 dominated this segment with 276 sales, ahead of the Chevrolet Silverado (191) and Ford F-150 (173).
Other notable takeaways from the April sales figures include a near 15% improvement in sales for the Mitsubishi Triton 4×4 ute, a 40% jump in popularity for the 4×4 Nissan Navara, and a better than 270% increase in customer demand for the VW Amarok 4×4.
