Mikeal Jannson has been announced as Scania Australia’s new managing director, taking over from incumbent Roger McCarthy on 1 July.
Jannson has been with Scania since 1984 and is currently senior vice president and head of parts and service, Scania CV AB.
McCarthy welcomed Jansson to Scania Australia and reflected that over the past eight years the company has undergone a substantial change in direction
“Since joining the company in 2009 we have welcomed many new customers to the Scania family, and I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all our bus and coach customers for their ongoing support,” he said.
“In that time we have maintained our position as one of the pre-eminent suppliers of city bus and coach chassis in Australia. Significantly, we have also entered the school and charter bus market with the highly successful Scania-Higer A30.
“We have also seen bus operators across Australia move towards a higher level of focus on whole-of-life costs and total operating economy, with greater recognition of optimised vehicle uptime and the role drivers play in enhancing bus operators’ profitability.”
Scania has also established a dedicated mining and resources division in recent years, as well as the Scania driver development team and driver services division.
McCarthy will remain as a non-executive director of the Scania Australia board and will be taking on further non-executive Scania board positions across a number of key growth markets in Asia and Oceania as well as some European markets.
“When I came to the role in Australia it was the start of a journey of genuine stability and growth for the company, and despite the dislocation of the GFC, we have been able to build solid foundations for the business to ensure we service and support our valued customers throughout Australia,” McCarthy added.
“I am very confident we have in place a robust management structure, in both retail sales and services, as well as from the distributor-Dealer Support Centre perspective that will ensure the business continues to thrive.
“I would like to wish Mikael, the Scania Australia management team, our existing customers and the ever-growing number of new customers of the Scania brand, every success in the future.”
