BETTER TO BE ARTIFICIAL THAN NOT INTELLIGENT AT ALL! – VOLVO BUS SIGNS PARTNERSHIPS FOR AI IN BUSES

Volvo Buses in Sweden has announced new partnerships which it says will provide its customers with easy access, innovative, new connected services and  which it says will offer integrated digital solutions for improved efficiency.

The Swedish automotive company says it plans to make Optibus’ public transport management software and Stoneridge’s data and artificial intelligence fuel advice solution available to customers in selected markets in pilot mode during 2024.

“Our strategy is to create partnerships with companies at the forefront of digital development that will further strengthen our connected services offer. Both Optibus and Stoneridge today have solutions that will improve our customers’ businesses,” explained Vinicius Gaensly, Volvo Buses’ business development and partnerships director.

Amos Haggiag, the CEO and co-founder of Optibus Software Solutions, said his company  is an excellent complement to Volvo Buses’ connected services offering.

“We see great opportunities to leverage vehicle data to further enhance the value brought to clients, including better operational insights and an easier way of planning more sustainable, efficient services,” said Haggiag.

Optibus is headquartered in Israel and  was founded in 2014 and says it powers complex transit operations in more than 6,000 cities around the world, planning and scheduling the movement of vehicles and drivers to it claims,  ‘improve the quality and reliability of transit service and make operations more efficient’. While its headquarters is in Tel Aviv, the company also has offices in  New York, San Francisco, London, Lisbon, Santiago, Berlin, Paris and São Paulo.

Optibus says it is a cloud-native AI platform that brings innovation to the essential mobility mode at the heart of cities via public transport. It claims to leverage a combination of artificial intelligence, advanced optimisation algorithms and distributed cloud computing to make public transport smarter, better and more efficient, and ultimately to increase freedom of movement and sustainable cities.

Stoneridge is headquartered in Michigan in the USA, and  describes itself as a designer and manufacturer of electrical, electronic systems, components, modules and systems for the automotive, commercial, off-highway and agricultural vehicle markets.

Caetano Ferraiolo, the president of Stoneridge’s Brazil Division  said that :the company’s fuel advice solution utilises vehicle generated data and applies artificial intelligence to proactively support and assist operators to reduce fuel consumption.

“It works by providing system generated suggestions for more eco-friendly driver actions without the need to manually process and analyse data. This solution is created together with Volvo Buses and key customers,” said Ferraiolo

Stoneridge says that through artificial intelligence its solution provides predictive insights to operators about their drivers and fleets performance, allowing for more efficient and intelligent decision making.
