AMPOL GOES H, TOO – AUSSIE FUEL GIANT ANNOUNCES TIE UP WITH US HYDROGEN FUEL SPECIALIST

Australian fuel and energy company Ampol has announced it has forged a partnership with US based hydrogen equipment manufacturer and supplier, OneH2, with the Aussie company set to represent the US company in Australia.

According to Ampol  the deal will allow it to offer a hydrogen refuelling solution, providing its  customers the opportunity to trial hydrogen technology and better understand how it can further assist their decarbonisation journeys through alternative fuel options.

Ampol says  the tie up with OneH2 is a natural extension to its local  fuel portfolio, an because of  its expertise in transport fuels, the deal will ensure reliable supply chains and the similarities between hydrogen and fuel products.

“Hydrogen has a key role to play in reducing emissions across Australia’s transport and broader energy sector and offers a unique opportunity to decarbonise hard to abate heavy transport and heavy machinery sectors,” said Brent Merrick, Ampol’s executive general manager  for international and new business.

“We expect early hydrogen adoption within heavier vehicle fleets and operations who will benefit from short refuelling times and longer range compared to current battery electric alternatives,” Merrick said.

OneH2 president and chief executive Paul Dawson said that during the past 18 months it has been encouraged by Ampol’s forward-thinking strategy for hydrogen in the transport sector.

“Hydrogen as a transport fuel is not easy,”  Dawson said.

“Our experience in designing, manufacturing and deploying hydrogen equipment across the US over the last eight years will allow us to accelerate its adoption in the Australian market.”

Initially, Ampol will deploy OneH2’s on-site refuelling offer which will allow customers to easily refuel their hydrogen equipment safely on site.
